Gaining control of your appetite can be quite challenging. There’s always something that makes you feel the need to eat! You could have just eaten lunch, but let you pass that “HOT” sign at a certain place or see a beautifully plated dish on social media. Next thing you know, your stomach is growling, doing flips and your mouth is salivating at the thought of sinking your teeth into something to eat.
Food is everywhere, am I right?! It is another form of temptation. It is cleverly placed in commercials, on television shows, or in the stores so that you are well aware it is around. Manufacturers want to appeal to ALL of your senses to get you one step closer to buying their product. For example, have you seen a promotion for an item at a fast food restaurant and later went on purchase it?? Was it on sale? Did it look perfectly put together? This is not by accident.

Have I made you hungry yet? Now that I have exposed some of the common tactics used, I want to help you with getting better control of that urge to chow down. The most important thing is to make sure that you are eating a well balanced diet. I know, I know…it sounds so cliché, but I cannot stress this enough. Your body will send you hunger signals when it is missing a nutrient. This is a good thing because your body is not designed to let you go deficient. The problem is that you have no way of knowing exactly which nutrient you need. Thus the importance of eating a variety of foods. Here are a few more tips that will be helpful for appetite control:
● Take a few deep breaths and find your level of hunger
● When was the last time you ate? It could be time for a snack.
● Take a few bites and determine if that item is actually something you want/like
● Stop eating when you are satisfied
● Learn your triggers (what prompts you to eat…even when you’re not hungry?)
● Make sure you are well hydrated
